KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 8, 2021) – United Soccer Coaches announced its College Player of the Week awards on Wednesday afternoon, with six student-athletes representing NCAA Division I, II, III men’s and women’s soccer.

NCAA Division I Men: Luke McCormick (West Virginia) 

NCAA Division I Women: Mollie Belisle (Georgia)

NCAA Division II Men: Louis Silva (Georgian Court)

NCAA Division II Women: Chloe Hinchcliffe (Kentucky Wesleyan)

NCAA Division III Men: Silas Galvao (Wheaton College)

NCAA Division III Women: Mary Jo Murphy (UMASS-Boston)

Third-year midfielder Luke McCormick (Derby, England) helped the Moutaineers beat back-to-back ranked opponents for the first time since 1998 and jump to fifth in the national rankings. McCormick’s goal and assist in two starts helped West Virginia overcome previous #3 Pittsburgh and #17 Penn State.

On the women’s side, Georgia grad student Mollie Belisle (Atlanta, GA) helped the Bulldogs knock off #15 Clemson with a brace, before adding two more goals against Wofford. She currently leads all scorers nationwide with nine goals through September 7th and Georgia is now 5-1 overall. 

In women’s DII competition, sophomore midfielder Chloe Hinchcliffe (Owensboro, KY) from Kentucky Wesleyan picks up the first award of the year. Her three goals and an assist helped the Panthers improve to a 2-0 start.

Over on the men’s side, Georgian Court midfielder Louis Silva (Union, NJ) led his side with three goals, including the game-winner against Southern New Hampshire.

DIII launched its season this past week and Wheaton College senior Silas Galvao (Houston, TX) got off to a blazing start, with four goals and one assist in his team’s opening wins. His hat trick at Marian helped the Thunder to a 2-0 start to the season. 

Mary Jo Murphy, a senior defender from UMass-Boston turned defense into attack in their opening two wins of the season, including the OT winner versus RPI. Overall the Worchester, MA native tallied three goals and an assist in two starts for the Beacons 

Each Wednesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men’s and women’s Player of the Week for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and Junior College competition based on nominations from schools and conferences. Nominations are due every Tuesday by 10 a.m. CT to be considered.
