The Women’s Coaches Advocacy Group distributes a quarterly newsletter to keep its members up to date on news, deadlines, and other association happenings. The newsletter also serves to let members know what the group is working on, highlighting group members and information on how you can get involved. This quarter’s newsletter features an article by Michelle Okumura, a Q&A with Katie Hultin, and information on the Moms Who Coach initiative. To read the full newsletter, click here.

Letter from the Chair, Haley Carter

Soccer Family and Friends,

What a wild ride it’s been since our last newsletter! In the past three months, the NWSL regular season has kicked off, Santa Clara won an NCAA Division I Championship, and the USMNT won the CONCACAF Nations League!! Within the Women Coaches Advocacy Group, we’ve welcomed multiple new leaders to the Group and have formally launched the #MomsWhoCoach initiative. We’ve returned to social media with our Coach of the Week spotlights and conducted our first Insta takeover with Alyse LaHue giving us a behind the scenes look at the NWSL Challenge Cup final!

As we head into the summer, we’re supporting our LGBTQ+ and Allies colleagues as they host their Pride month celebrations. The Black Coaches Advocacy Group is also hosting a live Juneteenth event, the Celebration of Black Excellence in Soccer, scheduled from 11:45 AM EST to 5:00 PM EST. You can learn more and register for the event here.

Another big announcement in the Advocacy space, in case you missed it, is the establishment of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Coaches Advocacy Group, chaired by Ashu Saxena. The Women’s Group would like to take the opportunity to formally welcome our newest colleagues to the Advocacy Council. We’ve featured one of their members in this quarter’s newsletter, Michelle Okumura, and we encourage you to learn more about their Group by visiting their website.

Last and certainly not least, we’ve started our initial preparations for Kansas City 2022! That’s right! We’ll be back in person! Identification of presenters, social event scheduling, and our open and closed door meetings are already in the works and I’m personally stoked about the programming heading your way in just six months! I won’t take up any more of your time as we’ve got some great coaches highlighted in this issue, but I hope this note finds you well and excited to get back together in January! Wish everyone a great summer and reminder to those Division I Coaches back on the recruiting trail – make sure you pack your sunscreen! Be well and catch you on the pitch!

Yours in Soccer,

Haley Carter
