KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 13, 2020) — A pair of defenders notched game-winning goals for their teams and were honored as the United Soccer Coaches Players of the Week for their performances last week. TCU junior Brandi Peterson and North Carolina graduate transfer Fillipo Zattarin were announced as the winners by the association on Tuesday.

Peterson (Atlanta, Ga.) scored her first career goal just 30 seconds in to overtime to give TCU a 2-1 win at No. 4 Oklahoma State. The win was the Horned Frogs’ first ever over a top-five ranked team and moved them in to second place in the Big 12 standings.

Zattarin (Padua, Italy) scored on a header with :01 remaining in regulation to lift the Tar Heels to a 1-0 win over No. 3 Clemson. He helped lead a defense that limited the Tigers to just two shots on goal before finishing the set piece just before time expired.

Each Tuesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men’s and women’s Player of the Week based on nominations from schools and conferences. Nominations are due every Tuesday by 10 a.m. CT to be considered.
