KANSAS CITY, Mo. (October 4, 2023) – United Soccer Coaches announced its College Player of the Week awards on Wednesday afternoon, with seven student-athletes representing NCAA Division I, II, III, and NJCAA men’s and women’s soccer.

NCAA Division II Men: Victor Castel (Adelphi University)

Yaniv Bazini Suwaibatu Mohammed

 

Yaniv Bazini netted two goals against the only team in the nation that hasn’t conceded a goal yet (Bryant). He played and started three games and scored a total of four points.

Suwaibatu Mohammed recorded her first career brace while also assisting on a third goal in JMU’s 4-0 win over Louisiana to extend its unbeaten streak to six. The assist on the first goal of the match made it four straight matches that she has recorded a point, the first time a Duke has recorded a point in four straight since 2019. The brace makes it back-to-back matches that she has scored a goal for the first time in her career.

Victor Castel Taylor Stubbs

Victor Castel netted back-to-back braces in a pair of league contests, accounting for both game-winners. On Saturday, Castel tallied the equalizing goal in the 57th minute as the ‘Cats trailed 1-0 at the half to Saint Michael’s. He volleyed home the game-winner with 8:09 left in the match.

Taylor Stubbs scored nine points in a single day, establishing a new record for the most points in a single game in the NCAA for King University. Her four goals put her on par with Kara Garrett and Kendyl Baird for the most goals in a single game during the NCAA era (since 2010) for the Tornado.

Juan Camacho Catriona Gould

Juan tied the program record for points in a game against Carlow with seven points (2 goals, 3 assists) and then exceeded it against Hilbert with eight points (3 goals, 2 assists). Currently, he ranks in the top 30 nationally in key categories: 10th in assists per game, 6th in total assists, 30th in points per game, and 22nd in total points.

Gould secured her first LEC Offensive Player of the Week honor for the season by tallying five goals and accumulating 11 total points during a successful 2-0-1 week for the Huskies. She achieved a hat trick in a 6-1 league victory over Plymouth State, netting all three of the first USM goals within the initial 24 minutes. Additionally, she added two goals and one assist in a dominating 6-0 win over Maine-Farmington in a non-conference match.

Caitlin Lagos

Caitlin had the game-winning goal in the match against Lancaster. In her two games played, she started both, scoring a total of three goals and providing one assist, resulting in seven points.

Each Wednesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men’s and women’s Player of the Week for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and Junior College competition based on nominations from schools and conferences. Nominations are due every Tuesday by 10 a.m. CT to be considered.
