Eight Student-Athletes Honored as United Soccer Coaches College Player of the Week – October 26, 2022

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 26, 2022) – United Soccer Coaches announced its College Player of the Week awards on Wednesday afternoon, with eight student-athletes representing NCAA Division I, II, III, and NJCAA men’s and women’s soccer.

NCAA Division I Men: Ryan Schewe (Georgetown University)

NCAA Division I Women: Shae O’Rourke (South Carolina)

NCAA Division II Men: Langston Blackstock (Clayton State University)

NCAA Division II Women: Anna Grossheim (UNC Pembroke)

NCAA Division III Men: Joseph Thongsythavong (Norwich University)

NCAA Division III Women: Alyssa Simien (Texas Lutheran University)

Junior College Men: Anthony Miron (Bakersfield College)

Junior College Women: Kenya Reynolds (Dallas College Brookhaven)

Ryan Schewe led his team to a 2-0 week with a pair of shutouts. Schewe posted a 0.0 GAA, while collecting all 13 saves for a perfect 1.000 save percentage. On Wednesday, he registered seven saves to preserve the shutout against Seton Hall. He followed up his midweek performance with another shutout against No. 9 Xavier.

Freshman Shae O’Rourke has played every game this season and was a key factor in the 6-1 victory over Tennessee. O’Rourke scored the second goal of the game just five minutes after coming off the bench in the 28th minute, then did the same in the second half, scoring in the 68th minute after subbing in less than 10 minutes prior.

Langston Blackstock recorded a 12-point week with five goals and two assists. In the 6-2 win over USC Aiken, Langston scored a pair of goals and added an assist. In the 4-2 win over Young Harris, Blackstock added another pair of goals and an assist.

Anna Grossheim, a junior from Garner, North Carolina, tallied three goals and added four assists as UNCP posted a perfect 2-0-0 week. In a 5-0 win over Barton, Grossheim scored two goals. She then followed up her performance by scoring one goal and four assists in the win over the Warriors.

Joseph Thongsythavong led Norwich to a pair of wins last week with 20 points on eight goals and four assists. In their match against Colby-Sawyer, he scored the first four goals and added three assists. Thongsythavong then scored another four goals against Albertus Magnus. His eight goals helped him become the all-time career goals leader in Cadet history with 58 for his career.

Alyssa Simien a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, had a 10-point week on five goals. Simien recorded two goals their 3-1 victory versus Austin College. To finish of the week, she recorded her first career hat trick in the team’s 4-0 win versus Austin College.

Anthony Miron, a sophomore midfielder, recorded a seven-point week with two goals and three assists. In the 3-2 victory over Citrus College, Miron recorded two goals and one assist. He then had two assists in the tie versus Glendale College.

Freshman forward Kenya Reynolds recorded her first career hat trick in a 9-0 win over Dallas College Eastfield. Her three goals gave her a nine-point week.

Each Wednesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men’s and women’s Player of the Week for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and Junior College competition based on nominations from schools and conferences. Nominations are due every Tuesday by 10 a.m. CT to be considered.
