KANSAS CITY, Mo. (September 6, 2023) – United Soccer Coaches announced its College Player of the Week awards on Wednesday afternoon, with eight student-athletes representing NCAA Division I,II, III, and NJCAA men’s and women’s soccer.  

NCAA Division I Men: Goncalo Franco (New Jersey Institute of Technology)

NCAA Division I Women: Pietra Tordin (Princeton University)

NCAA Division II Men: Eamon McLaughlin (Lee University)

NCAA Division II Women: Logan Parry (Belmont Abbey)

NCAA Division III Men: Jordan Bossman (Anderson University)

NCAA Division III Women: Cassie Nash (Simpson College)

Junior College Men: Marvin Gamez (El Camino College)

Junior College Women: Anika Elgin (Rock Valley College)

Goncalo Franco Pietra Tordin  

 

Goncalo Franco scored a brace in the Highlanders home-opening win over Big East foe Villanova, contributing significantly to the team’s win by scoring twice in a single game.

Pietra Tordin became the sixth player in program history, and first since 2014, to score four goals in a game, tying a program record, in the 4-3 win over Army. Tordin has seven goals in four games this season, already just one goal behind her eight-goal total from 2022 in her Ivy League Rookie of the Year season.

Eamon McLaughlin  Logan Parry

Eamon McLaughlin had a registered hat-trick in Lee’s season-opening 3-1 win over North Georgia, with four shots and three on goal in 64 minutes. He also had five shots and two on goal in the 2-0 win over Chowan.

Logan Parry scored six goals in Belmont Abbey’s record-setting 14-0 win over Virginia State. Belmont Abbey was 2-0 on the week with a region win over Anderson before collecting a win over Virginia State.

 Jordan Bossman Cassie Nash

Jordan Bossman became the first player in Anderson history to record hat tricks in back-to-back games. Bossman only played for 25:40 against UC Clermont, but scored three goals in Anderson’s 4-1 win. He then posted another hat trick in Anderson’s 5-3 victory against Concordia Chicago. Anderson went 2-0 in the Raven/Quaker Classic, winning its first title since 2018. Bossman was selected as the Raven/Quaker Classic Offensive MVP. He finished with six goals in two matches.

Cassie Nash had both assists in the win over Illinois Wesleyan and scored a hat trick in the win over Gustavus Adolphus, making her responsible for all five of Simpson’s goals scored this week.

 

Marvin Gamez Anika Elgin

Marvin Gamez scored twice in the season opener at IVC and opened the scoring in a 4-0 win over SMC in the home opener. Both were game-winning goals to help ECC start the season 2-0.

Anika scored two goals and one assist versus region opponent Kankakee CC. She then led the line versus region opponent Bryant and Stratton College with four goals and three assists totaling six goals and four assists this week in two games. Anika is leading NJCAA DII with twelve goals, six assists, and thirty overall points in five games. Three of the games include ranked NJCAA DII programs: St Louis CC, St. Charles CC, and Iowa Central.

Each Wednesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men’s and women’s Player of the Week for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and Junior College competition based on nominations from schools and conferences. Nominations are due every Tuesday by 10 a.m. CT to be considered.
