The Coach Developer Diploma, United Soccer Coaches’ latest advanced diploma offering, is designed to enable the club Director of Coaching (DOC) to support the on-going professional development of coaches in delivering excellent coaching practice.

The course will help coaches create professional development plans and use mentoring to provide supported practice to the field and will allow coaches to receive feedback on the effectiveness of their facilitation skills.

Attending the Coach Developer Diploma will make coaching education more accessible to grassroots programs, by allowing coaches to instruct United Soccer Coaches Diplomas, upon completion, for their club. Take this course education back to your environment and help support the on-going professional development of coaches.

The three-day workshop is designed to enable club DOCs along with any other coach that is mentoring current or aspiring coaches to provide effective training sessions.

Abigail Katz, a developmental coach for New York Red Bulls, participated in the first ever Coach Developer Diploma in New York in March and had this to say about the course:

“We are thrilled to have run a successful pilot United Soccer Coaches Coach Developer Diploma. The course is interactive and engaging for all with the blended approach of online, classroom and field-based learning. Candidates have the opportunity to learn and take away information and apply it to their environments back home. In Red Bulls Youth Programs, we have seen an improvement in how our coach developers educate and develop our coaches. I would highly recommend this course to anyone that is interested in supporting and growing the professional development of coaches within their club.”

Ian Barker, Director of Coaching Education for United Soccer Coaches expressed his opinion about the Coach Developer Diploma:

“This program is another in a series we offer that try to address the practical and contextual needs of the American coach and the American youth club, high school or college program. Technical leaders work to provide coaches, under their direction, ongoing education. When resources of time and money are limited this poses a great challenge. The Coach Developer Diploma seeks to provide technical leaders with the tools to present important and useful educational content within the environment of their own program effectively and efficiently. The outcome of the program is to produce more competent and thoughtful “coaches of coaches”.”

The next scheduled Coach Developer Diploma is set for Dec. 6-8 in San Ramon, Calif. For more information about the course, click here.
