Seven Collegiate Players Honored as United Soccer Coaches Players of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 16, 2018) – United Soccer Coaches honored seven collegiate student-athletes with Player of the Week awards, the association announced on Tuesday.

NCAA Division I Men: Leon Krapf (NC State)
NCAA Division I Women: Evelyne Viens (University of South Florida)
NCAA Division II Men: Alexander Vencel (West Texas A&M)
NCAA Division II Women: Mary Reilly (University of California San Diego)
NCAA Division III Men: Austin Bodner (DePauw)
NCAA Division III Women: Ashley Edgell (Misericordia University)
Junior College Men: Tanner Brose (Schoolcraft College)

NC State sophomore Goalkeeper Leon Krapf recorded two shutouts in wins at Longwood and against No. 1 UNC-Chapel Hill this week. Krapf faced 18 shots against the Tar Heels and stopped all five that were on target. University of South Florida junior forward Evelyne Viens broke the USF program record for career goals as a junior. She scored the two goals against one of the nation’s best defenses, #15/18 Memphis.

West Texas A&M sophomore goalkeeper Alexander Vencel had a dominating week for the Buffs as the sophomore registered a pair of shutouts with six saves on 17 shots faced in a pair of Heartland Conference road victories at Oklahoma Christian and #3 MSU Texas. Tallied four saves on seven shots faced on Thursday night at OCU followed by a two-save performance on Saturday afternoon in Wichita Falls as WT ended MSU’s 35-match unbeaten streak with a 1-0 overtime victory. University of California San Diego senior forward Mary Reilly notched both game-winners in a weekend sweep for the first time this season, scoring No. 10 UC San Diego’s only two goals, both in second halves, in a pair of 1-0 road wins.

DePauw senior goalkeeper Austin Bodner had a pair of shutouts against NCAC foes Ohio Wesleyan and Allegheny. Bodner made seven saves in a double-overtime tie against the Bishops before collecting three saves against Allegheny in a 1-0 victory. Misericordia University senior forward Ashley Edgell recorded nine points on four goals, two game-winners, and one assist. Edgell scored two goals and added an assist in a 6-0 win over Eastern. Edgell had two goals in a 6-0 win over Delaware Valley where she scored the game’s first two goals in a span of 19 seconds in the 12th minute.

Schoolcraft College freshman forward Tanner Borse delivered both his assists in the first half and completed his hat-trick early in the second against Lakeland.
