United Soccer Coaches Honors Eight with Player of the Week Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 30, 2018) – United Soccer Coaches honored eight collegiate student-athletes with Player of the Week awards, the association announced on Tuesday.

NCAA Division I Men: Lenny Wilson (St. John’s)
NCAA Division I Women: Atlanta Primus (Cal State Fullerton)
NCAA Division II Men: Carlos Gomez (Young Harris College)
NCAA Division II Women: Amanda Kaltwasser (Maryville)
NCAA Division III Men: TJ Corcoran (DeSales)
NCAA Division III Women: Nicolette Roberts (FDU-Florham)
Junior College Men: Devondre Armstrong (Massasoit)
Junior College Women: Kauany Sousa (Iowa Western CC)

St. John’s senior goalkeeper Lenny Wilson (Aberdeen, Scotland) came up big for the Red Storm, going 1-0-1 to clinch a BIG EAST Championship berth. He made 15 saves for the week, including seven in a shutout win over No. 24 Georgetown. Cal State Fullerton junior forward Atlanta Primus (London, England) notched four points and helped the Titans to their first conference win of the season.

Young Harris College senior midfielder Carlos Gomez (Algete, Spain) scored three goals and dished out two assists for eight points as the Mountain Lions completed a perfect Peach Belt Conference regular season, the first in the league since 1998. Maryville sophomore forward Amanda Kaltwasser (Belleville, Ill.) had a hand in all three goals, scoring two including the game-winner, in Maryville’s only action of the week.

DeSales freshman goalkeeper TJ Corcoran (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded 10 saves last week en route to a pair of shutout victories. Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham junior defender Nicolette Roberts had a goal and an assist and anchored a defense that helped the Devils to a pair of wins. She scored her first collegiate goal and assisted on the game-winner in a win over Wilkes.

Massasoit freshman forward Devondre Armstrong (Barnstable, Mass.) notched a first half hat trick to rally the Warriors from a 2-0 deficit and into a 3-2 lead as they went on to clinch the Region 21 Championship. The three goals were his first of the season. Kauany Sousa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), freshman forward from Iowa Western Community College, scored three goals and dished out one assist for seven points as IWCC captured the Region XI Championship.

Each Tuesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men’s and women’s Player of the Week for NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and Junior College competition based on nominations from schools and conferences. Nominations are due every Tuesday by 10 a.m. CT to be considered.
