Eight Collegiate Players Honored as United Soccer Coaches Players of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 9, 2018) – United Soccer Coaches honored eight collegiate student-athletes with Player of the Week awards, the association announced on Tuesday.

NCAA Division I Men: Hendrik Hilpert (Syracuse)
NCAA Division I Women: Sam Coffey (Boston College)
NCAA Division II Men: Jacob Murray (West Florida)
NCAA Division II Women: Annabel Sweeney (St. Edward’s)
NCAA Division III Men: Bobby McCaw (Calvin College)
NCAA Division III Women: Daniella Ford (Farmingdale State)
Junior College Men: David Isaac (Massasoit CC)
Junior College Women: Samantha Baston (Massasoit CC)

Syracuse senior goalkeeper Hendrik Hilpert (Eiterfeld, Germany) went 2-0 on the week allowing just one goal in 180 minutes. He recorded a shutout of previously undefeated and top-ranked Wake Forest. Boston College sophomore midfielder Sam Coffey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) scored four goals on the week, including her first career hat trick and the game-winner in an upset win over No. 23 NC State.

West Florida senior goalkeeper Jacob Murray (West Palm Beach, Fla.) recorded a pair of shutouts over the weekend, spanning 198 minutes of action. He had eight saves, including one on a penalty kick to keep the shutout intact. St. Edward’s junior goalkeeper Annabel Sweeney recorded 193 minutes of scoreless action for a pair of shutouts last week. She increased her shutout streak to five straight games.

Bobby McCaw (Dubuque, Iowa) senior forward from Calvin College scored five goals for 10 points last week, including two goals in a win over No. 16 Hope and his fourth collegiate hat trick in a win over Trine. Farmingdale State junior goalkeeper Daniella Ford (Elmont, N.Y.) allowed just one goal in 288 minutes of action last week. She recorded a shutout in a 1-0 win over No. 19 Swarthmore.

Massasoit Community College swept the junior college Player of the Week awards with freshman goalkeeper David Isaac (Brockton, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Samantha Baston (Carver, Mass.) earning the honors. Isaac allowed just one goal over 270 minutes of action. He made 12 saves and had two shutouts. Baston was a scoring and assist machine, registering nine of each for 27 points over the week.

Each Tuesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men’s and women’s Player of the Week for NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and Junior College competition based on nominations from schools and conferences. Nominations are due every Tuesday by 10 a.m. CT to be considered.
