KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Nov. 17, 2023) – United Soccer Coaches announced on Friday its 2023 Member Club/Youth Awards for its Coach of the Year and All-America programs. The awards were selected from online nominations received from members who were a part of the association’s Member Club program in 2023 and/or youth coaches who are individual members of the organization.
Youth Coach of the Year
Bobby Puppione, Centreville, Va.
The 2023 Youth Coach of the Year is Bobby Puppione from TSJ FC Virginia in Northern Virginia. Puppione is the Girls Academy Director at TSJ FC Virginia, a Coach Educator and Scout, and is on the board of the Washington DC/Baltimore-based non-profit organization Leveling the Playing Field.
A member since 2006, Puppione has been coaching youth soccer for more than 15 years and has earned his United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma and holds a U.S. Soccer A license. Before becoming Girls Academy Director at TSJ FC Virginia, he served in various director roles at CUP/Cincinnati United. Through his coaching career, Puppione has also helped hundreds of players move on to play college soccer, along with working with players at the youth national team level.
Puppione looks to provide the best long-term developmental environment for players to grow as people and players. He has had a positive influence on hundreds of players, helping them develop valuable life skills and falling in love with the game at the same time.
Youth Boys Player of the Year
Jack Brown, Lititz, Pa.
Recognized as one of the top creative midfielders in MLS Next, Brown is a repeat All-American. The left-footer is a member of PA Classics and scored 22 goals with 33 assists over the previous two seasons. He previously helped the Philadelphia Union Academy to a runner-up finish in MLS Next. Brown is committed to Georgetown University for Fall 2024.
Youth Girls Player of the Year
Mya Townes, Aldie, Va.
Mya Townes, a junior/class of 2025 forward for TSJ FC Virginia Girls Academy has been a member of the U.S. U17 Women’s Youth National Team along with U17 Girls Academy team at TSJ FC Virginia. She has been called in to national team camps for the past three years and earlier this year helped lead the U.S. U16 Women’s National Team to a tournament title at the Mondial Montaigu Football Tournament in France. Townes’ club team won the 2022 Girls Academy National Championship and finished third at Nationals in 2023. She is verbally committed to play college soccer at the University of Georgia.
