United Soccer Coaches honors seven with Players of the Week award
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 18, 2018) – Seven student-athletes hailing from all three NCAA divisions, as well as one representative from the junior college ranks, have received Player of the Week honors from United Soccer Coaches, the association announced on Tuesday.
NCAA Division I Men: Andre Shinyashiki (Denver)
NCAA Division I Women: Mikayla Krzeczowski (South Carolina)
NCAA Division II Men: Connor Glennon (Simon Fraser)
NCAA Division II Women: Mary Reilly (UC San Diego)
NCAA Division III Men: Roman Cano (Trinity)
NCAA Division III Women: Isabelle Smith (Oberlin)
Junior College Women: Maddie Renshaw (Herkimer College)
University of Denver senior forward Andre Shinyashiki (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored five goals and dished out one assist for 11 points as DU went 2-0 last week, including a win over No. 22 San Francisco. South Carolina junior goalkeeper Mikayla Krzeczowski (Douglasville, Ga.) stood tall in net, recording a season-high seven saves as the Gamecocks shutout No. 11-ranked Tennessee.
In NCAA-II, Simon Fraser sophomore forward Connor Glennon (Vernon, B.C.) scored four goals and dished out two assists for 10 points in a pair of victories. UC San Diego senior forward Mary Reilly scored five goals for 10 points, including a four goal performance in two Triton wins.
Trinity (Texas) sophomore defender Roman Cano (Plano, Texas) was big on both ends of the field as the Tigers scored a pair of shutout wins. He scored a goal and dished out one assist while anchoring a defense that allowed just two shots on goal over the course of two games. Isabelle Smith (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), a sophomore goalkeeper for Oberlin recorded two shutout wins in net, making nine saves.
Rounding out the Player of the Week honorees is Herkimer College sophomore midfielder Maddie Renshaw (Herkimer, N.Y.). She recorded a pair of goals and dished out four assists for 10 points in a pair of victories last week.
Each Tuesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men’s and women’s Player of the Week for NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and Junior College competition based on nominations from schools and conferences. Nominations are due every Tuesday by 10 a.m. CT to be considered.
