KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 22, 2020) — TCU senior goalkeeper Emily Alvarado and Georgia State senior forward Aris Briggs were named the first United Soccer Coaches Division I Players of the Week of the 2020 fall season, the association announced on Tuesday.
Alvarado (El Paso, Texas) recorded a pair of shutouts as TCU went 1-0-1 to open the season. She made a combined nine saves between the season-opening tie with Baylor and a 3-0 win over Texas.
Briggs (Memphis, Tenn.) scored both goals last week as the Panthers opened the season with a 2-1 win over Mercer. He got GSU on the board in the 10th minute and then notched the game-winner in the 81st minute to give Georgia Stateits second straight season-opening win.
Each Tuesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men’s and women’s Player of the Week based on nominations from schools and conferences. Nominations are due every Tuesday by 10 a.m. CT to be considered.
