Seven Student-Athletes earn United Soccer Coaches Players of the Week Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 11, 2018) – Student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions, as well as one representative from the junior college ranks, have received Player of the Week honors from United Soccer Coaches, the association announced on Tuesday.

NCAA Division I Men: JJ Williams (Kentucky)
NCAA Division I Women: Melissa Weck (Florida Gulf Coast)
NCAA Division II Men: Mikie Rowe (Young Harris College)
NCAA Division II Women: Jordyn Atagi (Central Missouri)
NCAA Division III Men: Josh Gonzalez (Manchester University)
NCAA Division III Women: Kyra Montes (Centenary College of Louisiana)
Junior College Women: Kristen Purcell (Herkimer College)

Kentucky junior forward JJ Williams (Mobile, Ala.) scored three goals in two Wildcat wins last week, including a first half brace and the game-winner against No. 7-ranked Louisville. Florida Gulf Coast junior goalkeeper Melissa Weck (Yorba Linda, Calif.) recorded seven saves and recorded two shutouts in 200 minutes of action last week.

In NCAA-II, Young Harris College senior forward Mikie Rowe (Wexford, Ireland) scored five goals, including two game-winners and a hat trick for the then-No. 5-ranked Mountain Lions. On the women’s side, Central Missouri junior goalkeeper Jordyn Atagi (Buckner, Mo.) stopped 10 shots en route to her first two career shutouts, including a shutout win over No. 13 Minnesota State.

Manchester University sophomore forward Josh Gonzalez (Portage, Ind.) took home NCAA Division III men’s honors after scoring four goals and dishing out three assists for 11 points in a pair of Spartan wins. Kyra Montes (Shreveport, La.), a junior forward for Centenary College of Louisiana scored five goals, dished out two assists and had 12 points to claim women’s honors. She scored two game-winning goals and had a hand in seven of 10 goals scored over the course of three wins.

Rounding out the Player of the Week honorees is Herkimer College freshman forward Kristen Purcell (Sauquoit, N.Y.). She recorded her first career hat trick and also dished out two assists for eight points last week.

Each Tuesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men’s and women’s Player of the Week for NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and Junior College competition based on nominations from schools and conferences. Nominations are due every Tuesday by 10 a.m. CT to be considered.
