KANSAS CITY, Mo. (July 21, 2023) – United Soccer Coaches announced Rob Herringer as the association’s new Director of Coaching Education on Thursday. Herringer brings over 20 years of experience coaching soccer at almost every level of the amateur game with him to serve in this new role.

“I am honored to serve as the next Director of Coaching Education for United Soccer Coaches,” said Rob Herringer. “The educators, staff and volunteers of the organization have had a profound influence on my life, personally and professionally.  I look forward to working with other educators on providing our members with first-class, meaningful learning opportunities that have a lasting impact on our craft and improve the game throughout the country.”

A United Soccer Coaches Member since 2000, Herringer holds the United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma, in addition to the United Soccer Coaches Master Coach Diploma/University of Delaware Master Coach Certificate, U.S. Soccer A License, and professional development certificates from clubs and federations in Scotland, England, and the United States.

As the Director of Coaching Education, Herringer will oversee the association’s coaching education content, courses, curriculums, coach educators, and new course creation. As a United Soccer Coaches Coach Educator and a past presenter at multiple United Soccer Coaches Conventions, Herringer will bring a fresh perspective on the association’s coaching education and assist in updates that make United Soccer Coaches education more accessible to coaches across all levels of the game.

“I am very excited for our membership with the hire of Rob as our next Director of Coaching Education,” said United Soccer Coaches CEO Geoff VanDeusen. “He has a vision that embraces past lessons for a brighter future for coaching education. Rob’s knowledge, experience, credentials, personality, network, and vision are what we need to elevate the education we provide to our membership.”

Herringer’s coaching experience first began as the head coach for boys and girls at Leavenworth High School in 2000. Since his first coaching position, Herringer has held positions as a staff coach for Kansas Girls’ ODP, USYSA Region II Boys’, and the Kansas Boys’ Olympic Development Program. In addition to multiple youth coaching positions, he has been the Director of Coaching for Leavenworth Soccer Association and Kansas Youth Soccer.

In 2004, Herringer was named the head men’s soccer coach at Benedictine College (Kansas), the institution he had played soccer at from 1996-2000. He held this coaching position for 11 years before becoming the Executive Director at Elkhorn Soccer Club in Omaha, Nebraska. After serving as the Executive Director for four years, Herringer moved into his current role as the Director of Soccer after the club merged with the Elkhorn Athletic Association.

In his time coaching, Herringer has been awarded Coach of the Year recognition from the Heart of America Athletic Conference (2009, 2012, 2013), Kansas Sunflower League (2005), and Kansas Youth Soccer Association Girls’ Olympic Development Program (2004).

Herringer will join the United Soccer Coaches National Staff in the association’s headquarters, located in Kansas City, Missouri, in September.
