Dear United Soccer Coaches Family!

Please join me in recognizing National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Signed into existence by then president Ronald Reagan in February 1987, today we continue to acknowledge the powerful influence sports participation has on girls and women; their accomplishments; and the ongoing progress and struggle for equity and inclusion.

We acknowledge today, but must recognize the significance and impact that we have on these girls every day as coaches. They are our pipeline of future leaders. And as coaches we act as conduits or channels to their pathways beyond the pitch because of the character-building we do with them and the experience we help create. We are central to their journey.

So, let’s be inspired!

Let’s show up for our girls…our girls from all races, ethnicities, economic statuses, abilities, and those that don’t identify. The game has brought us together; let’s embrace the impact, celebrate their successes, and commit to helping our players unlock the greatness already within them.

An advocate and ally,

Ashlee Fontes-Comber
