The Latino Coaches Advocacy Group distributes a monthly newsletter to keep its members up to date on news, deadlines and other association happenings. The newsletter also serves to let members know what the group is working on, highlighting group members and information on how you can get involved. Below is a letter from group chair Mauricio Lozada. To read the full newsletter, click here.

As the Fall soccer season is in full swing for most of us, I want to take this time to reflect on Hispanic Heritage Month, leadership of the Latino Advocacy Group, and reuniting with our members at the 2022 Convention in Kansas City.

Hispanic Heritage Month is important because we get to celebrate Hispanic cultures, better understand our complex history, and recognize our contributions to the past, present, and future of the United States. We are extremely diverse and may not always agree on everything, but our collective love and passion for the sport of soccer can rarely be matched. I encourage all coaches to learn more about the cultural backgrounds of their players to enhance your ability to connect with them on and off the field. Take this month as an opportunity to grow as a coach by adding to your toolbox cultural understanding of those you lead.

I am honored to serve as the Latino Advocacy Group Chair starting September, 2021. My last two years as a member of the group have been fantastic. I have met coaches all over the country doing great things for their communities using soccer. In my role, I want to shine a light on the positive impact our Latino coaches are having in the sport, provide opportunities for members of the group to lead informal coaching education, and increase the active participation of Latino coaches in all aspects of United Soccer Coaches such as coaching education, advocacy work, and the convention.

Speaking of, I am excited to reunite with you all at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Kansas City. I look forward to the field sessions, the exhibition hall, and the advocacy socials. I can’t wait to celebrate in person everything we were able to accomplish on and off the field during the last two years. Please keep an eye out for the next couple of zoom meetings and social media content to get us ready for convention.

Thank you,

Mauricio Lozada
