The Latino Coaches Advocacy Group distributes a newsletter to keep its members up to date on news, deadlines and other association happenings. The newsletter also serves to let members know what the group is working on, highlighting group members and information on how you can get involved. Below is a letter from group chair Julio Serrano. Letter from the Chair
My fellow coaches, referees, and administrators, we have fallen into very uncertain times. In some fashion we have all been directly affected by this in a way that we have not seen in our lifetime. There has been no stone left unturned in our lives from either a social, physical, mental/emotional level, financial perspective, and/or all of the above. So I hope that as the weeks and months have passed that you and yours are all first and foremost staying safe and healthy and that if there are areas of need or concern that you reach to me or to a fellow coach to help navigate these times.
While I am not sure where this will take us, I do know where I would like us to continue to go. We have seen a tremendous outpouring of support from organizations, associations, and individuals during these difficult times. And my hope is for our communities to grow stronger, our clubs to be more collaborative, our coaches to share more, for our game to rise to new levels of success to benefit the ones who make what we do worthwhile; The players. But the reality is that for the all the content that has been created and digested there are coaches and players who have had no access or time to take in all the virtual trainings due to various factors. Our reality has shifted and our main concerns and worries as coaches, spouses, caregivers, and parents have shifted to meeting our most basic needs first. So let’s make sure now, and in the future, that we are helping meet the players where they are, so we can help them reach for greatness.
I would like to end by saying that although what lies ahead is unknown, we have a responsibility as leaders in our communities to find paths, to be more inclusive, to share more, to listen more, and to change the current landscape of our game for the better. And this can be done with a phone call, an email, a check-in text, or a simple chat next time we get back on the pitch. We will get through this together!
Mis colegas entrenadores, árbitros y administradores, hemos caído en tiempos muy inciertos. De alguna manera, todos hemos sido afectados directamente por esto. Todo a cambiado en nuestras vidas desde un nivel social, físico, mental / emocional, desde una perspectiva financiera, y / o todo lo anterior. Así que espero que a medida que hayan pasado las semanas y los meses, usted y los suyos se mantengan seguros y saludables, y que si hay áreas de necesidad o inquietud que se comuniquen conmigo o con un compañero entrenador para ayudarme a navegar estos tiempos.
Si bien no estoy seguro a dónde nos llevará esto, sí sé a dónde me gustaría que sigamos. Hemos visto una enorme cantidad de apoyo de organizaciones, asociaciones e individuos durante estos tiempos difíciles. Y espero que nuestras comunidades se fortalezcan, nuestros clubes sean más colaborativos, nuestros entrenadores compartan más, que nuestro juego alcance nuevos niveles de éxito para beneficiar a aquellos que hacen que lo que hacemos valga la pena; Los jugadores. Pero la realidad es que, para todo el contenido que se ha creado y digerido, hay entrenadores y jugadores que no han tenido acceso ni tiempo para tomar todos los entrenamientos virtuales debido a varios factores y sin culpa propia. Nuestra realidad ha cambiado y nuestras principales preocupaciones y nuestras preocupaciones como entrenadores, cónyuges, cuidadores, padres y han pasado a satisfacer nuestras necesidades basicas de alimentacion, albergue y seguridad. Así que asegurémonos ahora y en el futuro estamos ayudando a los jugadores en donde están ellos y luego podemos ayudarlos a alcanzar la grandeza.
Quisiera terminar diciendo que aunque lo que se avecina es desconocido, tenemos la responsabilidad como líderes en nuestras comunidades de encontrar caminos para ser más inclusivos, compartir más, escuchar más y cambiar el panorama actual de nuestro juego para mejorarlo. Y esto podría hacerse con una llamada telefónica, un correo electrónico, un mensaje de texto o una simple conversación la próxima vez que volvamos a la cancha. Vamos a superar esto juntos!
