Charlotte Moran Fund Honors Legacy of Soccer Trailblazer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 18, 2018) – On May 18, 2009, Charlotte Moran lost her two-year long battle with pancreatic cancer. For over 30 years, Charlotte dedicated her life to soccer serving as an advocate, coach, and mentor for clubs and coaches across the country. Charlotte began her career serving clubs and organizations in Pennsylvania before moving into increased leadership roles in US Youth Soccer. Charlotte served as the US Youth Soccer Region I Girls ODP Administrator for 17 years, the US Youth Soccer ODP Girls National Chair for four years, and on the Local Organizing Committee for the 2003 Women’s World Cup.

She has been inducted into the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Hall of Fame, US Youth Soccer Region I Hall of Fame, and was posthumously inducted into the US Youth Soccer Hall of Fame. Soccer coaches across the country honor the memory of Charlotte by supporting the Charlotte Moran Fund housed within the United Soccer Coaches Foundation endowed funds. Ongoing support for the Charlotte Moran Fund allows those that knew her to award annual scholarships to coaches focused on the development and cultivation of women’s soccer. Awardees are able to enhance their coaching education through advanced coaching courses and professional development opportunities.

It is estimated that 55,440 new cases of pancreatic cancer will be diagnosed in 2018 and that 91% of them will succumb to their disease within five years. From May 18-25, United Soccer Coaches Foundation would like to honor Charlotte’s memory by educating coaches on the importance of cancer screenings and ask for financial support for the Charlotte Moran Fund. People from all walks of life are affected by cancer on a daily basis and we know that if this message of awareness can save the life of one coach, player, or family member, then we are living her legacy and emulating her spirit.
