United Soccer Coaches has announced the selection of Erik Oman as the 2024 Mike Berticelli Excellence in Coaching Education Award recipient for his outstanding contributions to coaching education and his singular service to the game.

Oman becomes the 25th person to receive the prestigious recognition from his peers. The award is named in honor of Mike Berticelli, the Association’s former Vice President of Education and men’s coach at the University of Notre Dame who passed away in 2000.

“I am pleased our Board of Directors has chosen Erik Oman as this year’s Mike Berticelli Excellence in Coaching Education Award winner,” said Rob Herringer, Director of Coaching Education. “He has been a key contributor to our Education Department for many years, and we are grateful for his work with teaching and hosting courses in the Pacific Northwest.  He has made a significant impact on the growth of coaching education within our Association and beyond.  I am happy Erik is receiving recognition for his many contributions to the game.”

Oman has been an instructor and coach developer for United Soccer Coaches since 2011, has been a regular presenter at the annual Convention and contributor to the association’s Soccer Journal.

Oman currently serves as head coach of West Seattle Junction FC, a USL2 team in Seattle, Wash. He also serves as the Academy Director and League Technical Director for the Washington Premier League (WPL), a US Club Soccer League with 35,000 players in Washington State. The WPL is one of the top providers of coaching education in the country for United Soccer Coaches. In his spare time, Oman works as a Match Director and Professional Match Evaluator for MLS and the NWSL in the Pacific Northwest.

The Berticelli Award will be presented at the association’s Awards Ceremony on Friday, January 10, 2025, in conjunction with the 85th annual United Soccer Coaches Convention in Chicago, Ill.
