KANSAS CITY, Mo. (July 20, 2023) – United Soccer Coaches announced the 2022-23 High School Scholar All-Americans on Thursday. A total of 109 student-athletes including 55 girls and 54 boys were honored based on their cumulative achievement in the classroom as well as on the soccer field during their secondary school careers.
The lists are highlighted by the Scholar Players of the Year as selected by the High School Scholar All-America Committee. Melina Rebimbas from Rutgers Preparatory School in Somerset, New Jersey, is the girl’s honoree and Alexander Barger from Naperville North High School in Naperville, Illinois, is the selection on the boys’ side.
Rebimbas, a midfielder, earned a 4.18 GPA for her school. She is a two-time New Jersey State Player of the Year at Rutgers Prep which included a 40-goal, 31-assist season in 2021-22 for the Argonauts. She is committed to playing collegiately at North Carolina this fall. She was a member of the 2022 U.S. Soccer U17 National Team that won the CONCACAF Championship, qualifying the team for the U17 World Cup and leading the team with eight goals. She was named the 2021 U16 and 2022 U17 North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and a 2021 and 2022 ECNL All-American.
Barger achieved a 4.13 cumulative GPA at Naperville North and was a two-time United Soccer Coaches All-American midfielder for the Huskies. Barger will be playing soccer this fall at Indiana University. He led his team to a 67-17-9 record, winning three conference and regional championships as well as two IHSA sectional titles during his career. He scored 14 goals and had 12 assists in his senior season, capping off 43 goals and 42 assists during his four years at his alma mater. His 2022 Huskie team went 21-6-2 en route to the Illinois Class 3A Super Sectionals.
