United Soccer Coaches honors seven with Player of the Week award
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 2, 2018) - United Soccer Coaches honored seven student-athletes with Player of the Week honors, the association announced on Tuesday.
NCAA Division I Men: Bruno Lapa (Wake Forest)
NCAA Division I Women: Raimee Sherle (Boise State)
NCAA Division II Men: Ruben Mancio (Barton College)
NCAA Division II Women: Peyton Peffers (West Florida)
NCAA Division III Men: Matt Stellitano (Stevenson)
NCAA Division III Women: Bailey Sipos (Maryville College)
Junior College Women: Kauany Sousa (Iowa Western CC)
Wake Forest junior midfielder Bruno Lapa (Curitaba, Brazil) scored three goals and dished out one assist for seven points. He scored the game-winner in a 4-2 win over No. 15 Duke. Boise State junior forward Raimee Sherle (Meridian, Idaho) scored four goals over the week, picking up braces in wins over Colorado State and Wyoming.
Ruben Mancio (Cadiz, Spain), sophomore forward from Barton College scored three goals and dished out one assist for seven points. He notched a pair of goals and an assist in an upset win over No. 24 Limestone. West Florida freshman forward Peyton Peffers (Panama City Beach, Fla.) scored four goals and dished out one assist in a pair of wins. She scored both game-winners during the week.
Matt Stellitano (Northfield, N.J.), freshman goalkeeper for Stevenson University notched a pair of wins in net and made 15 saves over the course of 184 minutes of action. Maryville College sophomore forward Bailey Sipos (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored four goals and dished out two assists for 10 points. She registered a hat trick in one game as Maryville went undefeated for the week.
Iowa Western Community College freshman forward Kauany Sousa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) scored three goals and dished out one assist for seven points to help her ninth-ranked team to a pair of victories.
Each Tuesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men's and women's Player of the Week for NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and Junior College competition based on nominations from schools and conferences. Nominations are due every Tuesday by 10 a.m. CT to be considered.
