NSCAA names High School Scholar All-America Teams

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (June 27, 2017) – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced on Tuesday the NSCAA High School Scholar All-America Teams for boys and girls soccer during the 2016-17 school year.

A total of 85 players receive High School Scholar All-American recognition, including 36 male student-athletes and 49 female student-athletes. In addition, Bellevue High School (Bellevue, Wash.) forward Joanna “Jojo” Harber and Lewisburg Area High School (Lewisburg, Pa.) forward Joseph Bhangdia were named the 2016-17 NSCAA High School Scholar Players of the Year.

Harber helped Bellevue (19-0-2) capture the school’s first Class 3A state championship in girls soccer in the fall, scoring the game’s only goal. She was named the Washington State Soccer Coaches Association’s Player of the Year as well as the Gatorade Washington State High School Player of the Year. In addition to her high school accolades, Harber has earned NSCAA Youth All-American honors each of the last three years and has been selected to the U.S. youth national teams at the U-14, U-15, U-17, U-18 and U-19 levels. She graduated with a 3.97 grade point average and will attend Stanford to play for the Cardinal in the fall.

Bhangdia was chosen as an NSCAA High School All-American in his senior season, capping a high school career in which he was a two-time All-State and All-East Region recipient to go along with three Heartland Conference Divisional Player of the Year awards. Bhangdia, who compiled 117 career goals, led Lewisburg to a second straight PIAA Class AA championship in the fall with a combined record of 89-3-1 during his four years. The Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association Male Player of the Year graduated with a 4.0 grade point average and will continue his career at the University of Pennsylvania this fall.

The 2016-17 NSCAA Scholar All-Americans will be formally recognized during the NSCAA All-American Luncheon in conjunction with the 2018 NSCAA Convention from Jan. 17-21, 2018 in Philadelphia. Luncheon registration details will be released in the fall.
