Derek Amano, Layton High School (Layton, UT)


Derek Amano has coached high school soccer for the last 10 years at Layton High School (Boys) and 11 years at Davis High School (Girls) in Utah.  Much of the success that these teams have enjoyed over the years can be greatly attributed to Coach Amano’s efforts, contributions, and dedication to the programs.  This last year Coach Amano helped his teams to win both Boys and Girls High School State Championships and Region Championships in the highest classification 5A, with two different soccer programs, in the same school year.  In addition Coach Derek Amano’s younger brother Kaden Amano whom Derek has coached and trained throughout the years was named “2017 Mr. Soccer” (the highest individual player award in the state) and “All-Area MVP”.

  • Hold the state record (44 game win streak)
  • State Finalist (2009)
  • 9 Region Championships
  • Junior Varsity Record 2007-2016 (132-15-12), 680 Goals Scored, 106 Goals Against, 84 Shutouts

Coach Amano is very grateful to be named the “2017 National High School Assistant Coach of the Year” and would like to give a special “Thank You” to his good friends and mentors Rick Talamantez (Layton High School Head Coach) and Souli Phongsavath (Davis High School Head Coach), as well as all of the amazing players he has worked with over the years.
