Coach Q&A with Jody Lingafeldt

To be honest I never wanted to play soccer.  My father drove me to my first soccer practice and he had to peel me from his truck as I hung on to the side of the door for dear life screaming I hate soccer.  Fast forward to today, minus the knee high socks, denim shorts and plastic white cleats – I am still involved in soccer.  I can’t narrow down a “who” inspired me to pursue coaching as I have met many people and have had loads of experiences along the way that have inspired me in one way or another.  To read more about Jody’s coaching journey, click below.

Meet Bob Chinn, a member of our Faith Based Coaches Community.  Bob shares how his job in law enforcement encouraged him to pursue a career in coaching.  He also discusses the challenges in understanding why any player may not want to improve their situation or are not willing to put in the work needed to improve both on and off the field.  Finally, he discusses how he measures success with his team and how he has benefitted from membership with United Soccer Coaches.

High School Winter Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Awards Announced

The 2024 – 25 United Soccer Coaches High School Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Awards recognizes a total of seven teams across the country for exhibiting fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game.

Coach Q&A with Dr. Shirley Chau

My soccer program is called the United Against Discrimination Inclusive Soccer Program (UAD ISP). The program was inspired by the need to find ways to promote the United Against Discrimination online portal, which was designed for community members to report incidents of discrimination and hate in the region. These reports can be made anonymously and when requested, we provide social and emotional support, referrals, and advocacy support. The UAD reporting portal (https://ubc.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3QtMdLHZ49EokeO) was not used by young people in elementary and high schools despite word on the street that young people in high schools were experiencing race-based discrimination at school. Since, FIFA has been promoting human rights and anti-racism for the 2026 World Cup.
